Tuesday, 4th September 2018 Introduction to MIS

Tuesday, 4th September 2018: ERP (MIS)

What did I study today at first meeting of Enterprise Resource Planning (MIS) subject?

First of all, I studied about what is exactly Management Information System universally in Business. At first, MIS applied in organisation to the management then implemented by technology. This is connected and resulting by the emergence of e-business, for example: doing business online and shopping online. However, in order to generate it, MIS itself has some process which are: the data gathering and data processing then both of it can get information. How MIS can help? They can help by gathering information, understanding habit, choices, correct strategy, and winning competition. The result of MIS are to produce new idea or product, analysing cost and increasing profit in running business. So, what is MIS? MIS is just the tools to help to manage our business. If you enjoy technology like iPhones, Line and Facebook, you have what it takes to major in information systems. All you need is an interest and addicted in technology and the desire to use technology to improve our lives. Many people think that MIS is all programming. Everyone who works in business, from someone who pays the bills to the person who hires and fires, uses Management Information Systems. For example, a supermarket could use a computer database to keep track of which products sell best. And a music store could use a database to sell CDs over the Internet. Information isn’t worth much if it doesn’t serve a purpose. MIS students need to learn how businesses use information to improve the company’s operations. Last but not least, How do we approach MIS? The first one by operation approach, for example: queuing theory (like model of queuing mcdonald queue and airport queue; different type of queue) and optimisations (the cost for inventory, kind of that), computer science (programming which is software and network which is hardware) and management science (supply chain management, data mining and forecasting). The second is behaviour approach which consist of: sociology (social study and human behaviour), economic (study of managing land, capital and labour) and psychology (study of mind, like philosophy).

So, from perspective of mind, thats all what I got today. Thank you Mr. Roy Poan:)
